SMB/DSMB Deployment Distinctive Specialty Delayed Surface Marker Buoy

Overview

This course is designed to be an introduction for the safe use of Surface Marker Buoy’s (SMB) and Delayed Surface Marker Buoy’s (DSMB). The course will help the student diver develop the skills, knowledge and methods necessary for deploying SMB’s and DSMB’s safely when diving.

The purpose of the SMB/DSMB Diver Distinctive Specialty course is to provide divers with the techniques, hazards, emergency procedures and the different international protocols associated with SMB’s and DSMB’s. The last couple of years have seen a rise in diver accidents caused by divers incorrectly deploying delayed surface marker buoys or being hit by boats when on the surface. By learning the methods and the scenarios to use either the SMB or DSMB the risk of a diver accident will be greatly reduced.
