Wreck Diver
Overview
The purpose of the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and excitement of diving on wrecks. The Wreck Diver Specialty course is intended as a safe, supervised introduction to wreck diving, with emphasis on fun and safety. Wreck diving is on of the most popular and dangerous activities in diving. Make sure you have the skills prior to wreck diving!
Prerequisites
Be certified as a PADI Adventure Diver (or have a qualifying
certification from another training organisation similar to that
of a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.)
Be 15 years of age or older.
Objectives
- Demonstrate practical wreck diving knowledge, including recognising and avoiding potential hazards, and planning procedures that make wreck diving fun.
- Explain the historical value of wrecks, social and legal issues surrounding that value, and describe some of wreck diving implications, including the pros and cons of removing artifacts from wrecks.
- Plan and organise dives to safely explore wrecks found within depths and conditions as good as or better than those he has been trained in.
- Identify the hazards of wreck penetration diving and demonstrate the techniques and procedures required to minimise those hazards.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be
awarded the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty certification.
Plan, organize, make and log recreational dives on
wrecks in conditions generally comparable to or better
than those you are trained in.
Make limited penetration dives into suitable wrecks,
staying within the natural light zone and not penetrating
more than 40 linear metres from the
surface.
Apply for the rating of Master Scuba Diver if you are a
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or have a qualifying
certification from another organisation) and a
PADI Rescue Diver (or have a qualifying certification
from another organisation) with certification in four
other PADI Specialty ratings.
